Zoltan Fekete - Proprietor
As the son of immigrant parents from Hungary, Zoltan grew up with the typical European experience of wine at the table and at special occasions. After graduating from the University of Toronto, Zoltan set off to explore not only his parents home country but the rest of Europe as well.
The budget of $15 per day was quickly abandoned when it came to finding some amazing gems in the wine shops of Spain. Marques y Murrietta Gran Reserva 1954, Marques de Villamagna 1952 and Campo Viejo 1961 and 1966 were just a few wines found for less than $10 per bottle in 1983. Those were the days...
Returning home with a new passion for wine, Zoltan took a job at the LCBO and soon became a Wine Consultant and was selected for numerous tasting and purchasing panels, including the then emerging Ontario VQA tasting panel.
After a 16 year career with the LCBO, Zoltan was recruited by one of Ontario's leading wine agencies to be their new Marketing and Fine Wine Manager. Among his suppliers in the portfolio was Robert Mondavi who soon recognized Zoltan's professionalism, dedication, and passion for the wine business and asked him to join their company as Export Manager for Ontario and Atlantic Canada.
This unique dream job provided a tremendous learning opportunity for not only Napa and California wines, but those of their partner projects in Chile, France, Italy, and Australia. The lessons learned and experiences forged resonate to this day.
With the Mondavi family selling their business in 2004, it allowed Zoltan to embark on a dream he had since working at an agency almost 10 years earlier. From this, Kylix Wines was born in 2005 with the goal of representing Family and Estate wineries from not only the world's great wine regions, but also to find new partners with the foresight and drive to create new wineries in new regions, and to show their drive to excel in every bottle.
Working now with over fifty family and estate wineries, Zoltan continues to find and introduce new wines and wineries to the consumers of Ontario.
